These words come from a song called Kill Your Heroes by a band called Awolnation. Those words have a deeper meaning you think. We all have our favorite music genre. Most of us sing or hum tunes of our favorite songs every day. I find that over time you examine the words to a song more closely. That’s when those words “never let fear decide your fate” hit me. What makes someone choose not to do something just because? You receive all the common excuses that we are all guilty of giving. I don’t feel like it. I’m not ready yet. I need to think about it more. My dog is sick. The answer you never hear is “I’m afraid.” Why are we reluctant to say that? Everyone will call you a chicken. They will make fun of you to others. They won’t have any respect for you. The truth is folks, we are all afraid. We don’t want to admit it because we feel it makes us look weak. Fear of the unknown exists. That’s why making a change scares the crap out of us. If you do something for you that makes no sense to anyone else, but it hurts no one else, aren’t you better off trying it than not trying it at all? Shouldn’t we all get out of our little box to see what we may be missing?
Never let fear decide your fate. I live by these words every day. If I want to try something new and don’t because I’m afraid, I want to look that fear in the eyes and understand it, not cower away from it.
